Label more than the outerwear. Most families under-order because they count shirts and forget everything that also goes through the laundry.
• Everyday clothing: shirts, trousers, jumpers, cardigans, dresses, skirts
• Underwear, singlets, socks, stockings and pyjamas
• Dressing gown and slippers
• Towels, face washers and personal linen if the home asks you to supply them
• Shoes, inside the heel or on the insole
• Glasses case, hearing aid case, dentures cup, hairbrush, toiletries bag
• Walking frame, walking stick, wheelchair and any bag attached to them
• Books, photo frames, remote control, drink bottle, radio and other room items
Aged care laundries run hotter and harder than a home machine, and garments are sorted at speed by staff who need to read a name at a glance. Three things matter: the name has to be permanent, it has to be legible, and it has to be comfortable against thin skin.
Iron on clothing labels bond into the fabric and are the most common choice. A name stamp is the fastest option for a large wardrobe and cannot peel. Clip on labels are the answer where a home will not accept an adhesive or heat-set label at all.
Aged care moves are rarely planned far ahead. If you are working to a discharge date, choose express delivery at checkout and start with clothing, then top up for personal items once the move is done.
